Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate are the measurements?
Under good conditions — even lighting, a clean log surface, careful scanning — measurements are typically accurate to within 1–2%. Accuracy varies with lighting, surface conditions (bark, moisture, debris), scanning distance, and coverage.
LogScanner is a practical field measurement tool, not a certified scaling instrument. For commercial transactions legally requiring a licensed scaler, independent verification is needed.

Which log scaling standards are supported?
LogScanner Pro supports Doyle, Scribner, and International log scaling rules. Select your preferred standard in Settings. Doyle is the default.
Does the app work without internet?
Yes. All scanning, measurement, and calculation happens entirely on your device. No internet connection is required. Your data never leaves your device unless you export it.
What does the free version include?
The free version lets you scan any log and view its 3D geometry in real time — so you can see how the app performs on your actual logs before upgrading. Measurements, board feet yield, save/load, and export are Pro features.
How do I get the best scan results?
- Scan in even lighting — avoid harsh direct sunlight or very dark conditions
- Move slowly and steadily around the full log
- Keep the iPhone 0.5–1.5 metres from the log surface
- Cover all sides and both ends of the log
- Clean, dry bark scans more accurately than mossy or wet surfaces
- Avoid scanning in rain or mist
Can I use LogScanner for commercial timber transactions?
LogScanner is well suited for planning, field estimation, and record-keeping. However, in many jurisdictions commercial timber sales legally require a licensed log scaler. LogScanner measurements do not satisfy that requirement. Check the regulations in your area before relying on App measurements for a commercial transaction.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone, find LogScanner Pro, and tap Cancel. You retain Pro access until the end of your current billing period.
How do I restore my subscription on a new device?
Open LogScanner, go to Settings within the app, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used to purchase the subscription.
Where is my scan data stored?
All scan data is stored locally on your device. Bunyan Software never has access to your scans or measurements. We recommend exporting important scans as PDF or CSV before uninstalling the app.
What export formats are available?
LogScanner Pro supports PDF reports (for printing or sharing), CSV files (for spreadsheets), and 3D scan files. All exports are saved to your device and shareable via the iOS share sheet.
