Setting Up Your Products in Log Master
Groups, sizes, wane, lengths, and prices — the products your log gets cut into.
How to build a product set in Log Master, the sawmill cut-optimizer app for iPhone and iPad. This walkthrough creates a new product data set and adds two product groups and two products, a 1×7 and a 1×8, then sets their wane rules, the lengths offered, and prices. Log Master only cuts what your product set offers, at the prices you give it — this is where you tell it what you actually saw and sell.
What the video shows
- 0:00 — Product Setup and the data-set picker. Open Product Setup. The data-set picker lists the product sets already on this device.
- 0:10 — Create a new product data set. The new set starts empty, in the units you choose.
- 0:25 — Add a product group (1×7). The group holds the green-sawing oversize and nominal thickness shared by its products.
- 0:50 — Add a product: finished and nominal size. A new 1×7 product, with its finished size (1 × 7 in) and nominal size (1 × 7) set.
- 1:10 — Basic and wane settings. The Basic tab holds the product's size definition; the Wane tab sets minimum thickness, edge face threshold, minimum width, and minimum planed face.
- 1:45 — Product control and lengths offered. The Control tab holds options such as multi-wide; the Lengths tab is where you tick the lengths this product is offered in.
- 2:00 — Save and put the product in its group. A new product starts outside any group — the app says so — so the next step moves the 1×7 into the 1×7 group.
- 2:15 — Second group and product (1×8). A second group, and its 1×8 product, get the same size, wane, control, and lengths treatment.
- 3:35 — Pricing and auto-fill prices. On the Pricing tab, Auto-Fill Prices fills in every offered length from a single rate per group.
- 4:05 — Group the 1×8 and set its oversize. Save, move the 1×8 into its group, and set that group's oversize and nominal thickness.
