Getting around Log Master
Where everything lives, and what each control on the main working screen does. If you only read one page before your first log, read this one.
The optimizer screen
This is what you see once a log has been solved, and it is where you will spend most of your time. The cross-section in the middle shows how the boards fall at one station along the log. Everything around it either changes what you are looking at, or takes you to the next step.

Controls — what each one does

Menu
Opens the optimizer menu — another scan, any setup screen, batch, reports, import and export.

Scan name
The log you are working on. Press and hold to rename it. The name is a label only and never changes the solution.

Done
Leaves the optimizer and goes back where you came in from.

Log readouts
Taper, sweep, length and recovery. Recovery is shown for the three best alternatives.

2D / 3D
Switches between the flat cross-section and the three-dimensional model.

Model / Photo
Draws the cross-section over the reconstructed model, or over the real end photo.

Value
What this solution is worth at your prices. This is the number the optimizer maximises.

Cross-section
The boards laid into the log at the current station, each labelled with its size and length.

Bark
The bark thickness being deducted. Measured automatically — tap to override and re-optimize.

Alternative
Which solution you are looking at. Best is the highest value; the others rank below it.

Station
Moves along the log. The readout shows the station number and the distance from the small end.

Actions
Re-run the optimizer, open the step-by-step cut sequence, or produce the printable cut sheet.
The value is only as good as your prices. That figure comes from your own product set. If it looks wrong, check Products and pricing before you suspect the optimizer.
Your first log, start to finish
The short version. Each step has its own page with the detail.
- Set up your mill. Kerf, sawhead resolution and capacity, under Machine Setup. Ten minutes once, and every solution afterwards is cut to your mill rather than a generic one.
- Load your products and prices. The optimizer maximises value, so it can only be as right as your price list.
- Scan the log. Walk its length with the phone, then capture the end faces from where you are standing.
- Optimize. Open the scan, choose price-based or preferred cant, and let it solve.
- Take it to the mill. Cut Sequence gives you the steps one at a time on the phone; Cut Sheet gives you a printable page for the wall.
